The Refusal to Die

Things were going well -- until they weren't. Financial issues, health problems, and many dark months frustrated the development of TAE such that I took a 'dev break' to other projects such as Unfathomed. The Beast had grown difficult to tame as it was, but the eldritch maths I drew up to silhouette its frame eventually collapsed in on me -- the sheer weight of it near-impossible to shake off as I tried desperately to claw the game towards the Final Confrontation stage of its development -- a true version 0.8 which would have the full gameloop.

Then the black lightning of unfettered capitalism struck the project dead. The sudden policy change Unity had threw all my projects into chaos and, ultimately, I decided to quietly scrub them rather than wager on a future in which I would be hurled into the game development equivalent of a debtor's prison. All my projects: condemned to the dark arcades of the past and nostalgia for what might've been in a different world.

But the dead refuse to die.

From the embers of the corpse of To Ash and Ember, I've drawn new fire and light. Though the Unity version of TAE is now dead and buried, my hands are now busied with recreating the eldritch nightmares once more in Godot.

More to come. Inevitably.
