Mini-update #4: Blemishes and Bruises

As of this time, Confrontations (or at least their very early prototype form) are back in To Ash and Ember. Currently they're something of a mashup/reinterpretation of Inscryption's first Act as I continue to believe the Arkham Horror boardgame's combat is speedy -- but is fairly minimalistic in terms of mechanical depth.

My main difficulty is that it continues to be stat-based, which means all attacks and damages are rolled, which can at low Power (the collective term for 'Stat you Roll to Hurt Things') result in several rounds of creatures swinging at each other and missing. I'm considering 'concreting' stats during combat and making them reliable with spells that can force them to be unreliable as they would be. I do like me some X-COM dicerolls -- but if everything is <70% to hit, then it gets sloggish and not-very-fun.

Anywho, thinking about all that so that I can make a tight, fun, experience for your pugilistic and projectile needs.

I've also taken the time to breathe some simulated life into the early minutes of the game with backsplash work that has animated elements to it to help aid the atmosphere.

Confrontations are a round-based affair where effectively those on the board take turns swinging at each other. The objective is to bring down your opponent (if you have one) or clear the board of their creatures (if you don't have an opponent).

Once I've got the Homebase back in, I'll be close to the very first version I pushed to itch.io 3 years ago once more.

Much more to come and soon!

As always, everything I'm showing is subject to change and is probably not final (especially the Confrontation screen), but I'm always happy to hear feedback. Speaking of: if things keep moving at the rate they are now, I wouldn't be surprised if I had a playable alpha build of the game in a month or two...
